There's video too of this amazing incident. Check it out here: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6704191n
You may have to sit through a short commercial, but it's worth the 15 second wait!
In the meantime, we are still working on Fezela. Hope to launch in the fall this year!

As you may know, I'm always searching the internet for other Barens Seatrader boats and owners. Well, today of all days, I found Ralph Mothes, proud owner of 'Intrepid', a Barens Seatrader 32, just like ours.
I was admiring photos of his boat and decided to email him and ask for more photos. He came back immediately with two amazing photos, but not of the interior as requested. Check these out!
These pictures are real, they are not cleverly edited. This whale breached right next to and then onto the boat. It bounced off and fell back into the water on the port side.
Ralph and his girlfriend Paloma are ok, but the boat took quite some damage. Paloma tells me the mast and rigging need to be replaced, the lifelines and stanchions are toast and the hard dodger is damaged.
They didn't have insurance, so it will be hard to get over this one.
Anyway, the boat didn't sink and no one was hurt, that's the good news.  I guess today was a good day for steel sailboats!
The Cape Argus newspaper has an article on the frontpage today. Here's the link: http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=139&art_id=vn20100720120322301C168813&page_number=1

Happy sailing!

Launched! 12/21/2009

Well, we finally did it! We launched Fezela in December, and she is happily floating at the dock.
We were worried about the center of gravity, as we've changed so much inside the boat. But she's floating level and the waterline looks good too.
No leaks, the bilge is bone-dry.
We still have a lot of work to do, but for now the floating is really nice.
Today the internet seems really slow, I'll be posting more pictures later this week.
